Low job growth and high unemployment put Louisville in 72nd place on Forbes magazine's recent listing of the "Best Cities for Jobs in 2008."Source: Business First of LouisvilleForbes ranked the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the United States.
To compile the rankings, the magazine used five measures, weighted equally: a state's unemployment rate, job growth, income growth, median household income and cost of living for 2006 (only partial data was available for 2007).
Louisville ranked No. 16 in the cost-of-living category, No. 52 in income growth, No. 72 in median income, No. 82 in unemployment and No. 84 in job growth. Louisville ranked No. 79 in 2007 and No. 76 in 2006.
Louisville did rank above some other cities in the region. Cincinnati ranked No. 78 and Knoxville, Tenn., ranked No. 76.
Salt Lake City took the top spot on the list, followed by Wichita, Kan.; Austin, Texas; Atlanta; and Fort Worth, Texas.
Detroit ranked last on the list.
