"Coke" has long been a nickname for Coca-Cola, but the word wasn't registered as a trademark by The Coca-Cola Company until 1941. Haddon Sundblom was commissioned to create the Sprite Boy to herald the official introduction of "Coke." First used in 1942, the Sprite Boy wore a soda jerk's cap as shown here when representing fountain sales and a bottle cap when promoting bottled sales.
